Description
This image was taken in the Red Mountain Mining District in the San Juan Mountains off of Hwy 550 The Million Dollar Highway. It's the Guston-Robinson Mine in the old ghost town of Guston. The town was established in the mid 1880s to serve three very large and rich mines, the Guston-Robinson, the Yankee Girl, and the Genesee-Vanderbilt. The peak population was 1,000 also Guston had the only church in the area for many years.

Great capture and angle. I shot this from down lower, but I love this shot with the wall with doorways and window frames. I'm enjoying your "A Forgotten Past" gallery. I love old buildings as well. I live between Sedona and Jerome, Arizona and have been to the San Juan Mountains at least 20 times. I've shot many of the Colorado buildings that you have, in addition to the U Drop Inn and Bodie. I even survived the Black Bear Pass-the ride of a lifetime! v
