Artist's Description

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, home of the USS YORKTOWN, and South Carolina’s most unique attraction. In the foreground you can see the sunken hull at low tide of the Army Quartermaster River Steamer Col. J. E. Sawyer was the first concrete passenger vessel made in America that was commissioned on Oct 18, 1919. In 1926, the Sawyer sank near Adger’s Wharf creating long-term problems for port authorities who dubbed her the “old sunken hull.” The Sawyer was raised on June 22, 1929, after weeks of frustrating yet amusing attempts. The old hull was towed to this site and remains an iconic fixture.

About Lana Trussell

Lana Trussell

I am a self-taught Oklahoma based photographer who lives in Mannford, Oklahoma who loves to be out with her camera. When I am not working on portraits you can usually find me out shooting at whatever interest me at the moment. I'm big on being outdoors and I love to travel to different places looking for beautiful landscapes, wildflowers, wildlife or quaint little towns. As much as I love to travel I also love to hit the back roads of my home state to see what I can find to put in front of my camera.
